No: as of October 2026, neither ChatGPT nor Claude can generate video by itself. OpenAI shut down the Sora app and website on April 26, 2026, then the Sora API on Sept. 24, 2026 (OpenAI Help Center, checked Oct. 29, 2026); ChatGPT makes images, not videos (see what happened to Sora). Anthropic’s help center says Claude doesn’t generate photos or illustrations the way image tools do; it builds diagrams and interactive visuals in HTML and SVG, and no video generation is documented (Claude Help Center, checked Oct. 29, 2026).
What does work: an MCP connector. It links the assistant to a video generator (Higgsfield, Kling, Runway, MiniMax). You describe the scene in the chat, the assistant runs the generation on your account with that service and hands back the clip. Every video is billed by the video service, in credits or pay-as-you-go, not by ChatGPT or Claude. This guide compares the four connectors whose makers publish documentation, then walks through setup in four to six steps using Higgsfield, whose paid plans start at $15 a month for 200 credits in the U.S. (Starter, limited models; Seedance 2.5 from Plus, $49) (Higgsfield pricing guide, Oct. 24, 2026, checked Oct. 29, 2026).
What Is an MCP Server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI apps such as Claude or ChatGPT to outside systems: data, tools and services. Its documentation compares it to a USB-C port for AI applications (modelcontextprotocol.io, checked Oct. 29, 2026).
- An MCP server is the service that exposes tools, such as “generate a video” or “check my credit balance.” Higgsfield, Kling and Runway host theirs at a web address; MiniMax’s runs on your own computer.
- A connector (Claude) or plugin (ChatGPT) is the entry in the assistant that points to that server and stores your sign-in authorization.
Which plans allow it?
- Claude: custom connectors (remote MCP) are available on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans; Free is limited to one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an organization owner adds it (Anthropic help, checked Oct. 29, 2026).
- ChatGPT: the plugin directory is available on every plan, but installing a given plugin depends on your plan, region and workspace (OpenAI help on plugins, checked Oct. 29, 2026). Adding a custom MCP server is limited to admins (or authorized members) of Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, on the web; on Pro, a custom server only gets read/fetch permissions (OpenAI help on custom MCP servers, checked Oct. 29, 2026). In practice, Free, Go and Plus users go through a plugin listed in the directory.
Which Official Video Connectors Work With Claude and ChatGPT?
Four companies publish documentation for their own video MCP server. The table draws on their pages, checked Oct. 29, 2026; other platforms also advertise connectors and aren’t covered here.
| Higgsfield MCP | Kling MCP | Runway MCP | MiniMax MCP | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Address or install | https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp | https://kling.ai/mcp (international kling.ai accounts) | https://mcp.runwayml.com/mcp | Local server (uvx minimax-mcp), open source |
| Video models | Everything on the site from Plus up (Starter: selected models): Kling, Seedance, Veo, Wan, MiniMax H3… | Kling’s own; listed features: text or image to video and image | Gen-4.5, Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1… depending on plan | MiniMax-Hailuo-02 and the 01 series; not H3 |
| Claude | Custom connector | “Add to Claude” plugin or custom connector | Custom connector | Claude Desktop, via config file |
| ChatGPT | Official plugin in the directory | Manual server setup, or a plugin installed locally from GitHub | Official plugin in the directory | Not documented |
| Sign-in | Higgsfield account, no key | Kling account, no key | Runway account, no key | MiniMax API key |
| Account needed | Active paid subscription | Kling account; minimum plan not stated | Pro or Max per the pricing page (not listed on Standard) | MiniMax developer account with a balance |
| Billing | Higgsfield credits at standard rates | Same credits as the Kling app | Runway credits, same as the app | Pay-as-you-go API |
| Limits | No unlimited or free generations; no audio in ChatGPT; no credit cap | Kling recommends its command-line tool as “more stable” | Credits only: Explore Mode isn’t supported | MiniMax now recommends its CLI instead; last code change Aug. 20, 2026 |

Higgsfield puts models from several labs (Kling 4.0, Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1, Wan, MiniMax H3…) under one account, but everything that runs through MCP costs credits, even on models your plan includes as “unlimited.” Details in our Higgsfield guide.
Kling documents its own server (MCP page, blog post of Aug. 27, 2026): it shares the app’s credits and needs no API key. For ChatGPT on the web, Kling points to adding the server manually (Settings → Plugins → Create), a feature OpenAI limits to Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces; its page doesn’t link to the plugin directory. Pricing and credits in our Kling guide.
Runway and Higgsfield are the only two of the four whose pages point to ChatGPT’s plugin directory. On Runway’s pricing page, the “Runway MCP” line appears on the Pro and Max plans.
MiniMax (the company behind Hailuo) publishes a server you install yourself, in Python or JavaScript, which calls its API with a key from the developer platform. Its video tools offer MiniMax-Hailuo-02 and the older 01 models, not MiniMax H3. It doesn’t use a Hailuo app subscription: every video is charged to your API balance with a standard key (using an M Plan key with this server isn’t documented). The help page links to an account page tied to the old Token Plan subscriptions for creating the key, while the M Plan FAQ says its keys can’t replace standard API keys: check your console before paying. The repo warns: “Using these tools may incur costs.”
How Do You Generate a Video in Claude or ChatGPT With Higgsfield?
This walkthrough uses Higgsfield, whose help center documents the Claude and ChatGPT setups step by step; Runway publishes equivalent steps in its help center, and Kling works the same way with its own address. You need an active paid Higgsfield subscription and a Claude account (even a free one) or a ChatGPT account.
In Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop)
Based on Anthropic’s help center and Higgsfield’s help center (checked Oct. 29, 2026):
- Open Customize → Connectors (Higgsfield’s help center still says “Settings → Connectors”).
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name the connector “Higgsfield,” paste
https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcpand click Continue. - Confirm the detected authentication settings (Higgsfield signs in with OAuth, so there’s no key to add as a header) and click Continue, choose Sign in now, then Add. A Higgsfield window opens: sign in and authorize access. Claude never sees your Higgsfield password.
- In a chat, open the + button at the lower left, then Connectors, and turn Higgsfield on for that conversation.
- Test with a request that costs nothing: “What is my Higgsfield credit balance?” If Claude answers without calling Higgsfield, check that the connector is on.
On Team or Enterprise, an owner first adds the connector under Organization settings → Connectors; each member then clicks Connect. Claude Code uses Higgsfield’s command-line tool instead of the address.
In ChatGPT
ChatGPT doesn’t use the server address: Higgsfield is an official plugin there (Higgsfield help, OpenAI help, checked Oct. 29, 2026).
- Open Plugins in ChatGPT’s sidebar (or go to higgsfield.ai/mcp and pick “Connect to ChatGPT”).
- Find Higgsfield and choose Install plugin (“Add” in Higgsfield’s help).
- Click Connect, sign in to your Higgsfield account and authorize access.
- In a chat, mention @Higgsfield or pick it from the + button.
Audio generation and website building aren’t available in ChatGPT. Per OpenAI’s help on connected apps, ChatGPT may ask for approval before an action; don’t choose “Allow all actions” for a service that spends credits.
A First Prompt to Copy
Higgsfield suggests describing the subject, action, camera and length, naming the model if you want a specific one, and asking for the cost before anything runs (Higgsfield blog, Oct. 27, 2026). A prompt built on that pattern, with an inexpensive model for the first try:
Use Higgsfield to make a 5-second 16:9 video at 720p with Kling 3.0.
A cyclist in a yellow jacket rides across a wooden bridge at sunrise, mist over the river,
camera tracking alongside her, realistic motion.
Before you generate it, tell me how many credits it will cost and wait for my confirmation.
The clip comes back in the chat and is saved to your Assets on higgsfield.ai, tagged “MCP.” To animate your own image, ask the assistant to open the Higgsfield upload window: it can’t pass along images attached to the chat. To sign up: Higgsfield commission.
How Much Does It Cost?
The assistant adds nothing; you pay the video service. The math below divides each plan’s price by its credits, then multiplies by the credits a clip uses. It assumes you use every credit in the month and doesn’t count failed attempts. Prices checked Oct. 29, 2026 unless noted.
| Connector and settings | Published cost | Reference plan | Cost per clip (math) | Clips per month (math) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Higgsfield, Kling 3.0, 720p, 5 sec | ~7 credits | Plus, $49 for 1,000 credits | $0.34 | 142 (math based on ~7 credits; Higgsfield’s own comparison counts about 160 a month on the 1,200-credit Plus plan it shows outside the U.S.) |
| Higgsfield, Seedance 2.5, 720p, 10 sec | 70 credits | Plus, $49 | $3.43 | 14 |
| Higgsfield, Seedance 2.5, 1080p, 10 sec | 160 credits | Plus, $49 | $7.84 | 6 |
| Kling MCP, Kling 4.0, 720p, 5 sec | 50 credits (10 per second, recorded Oct. 16, 2026) | Standard, $8.80 for 660 credits | $0.67 | 13 |
| Runway MCP, Gen-4.5, 5 sec | 60 credits (12 per second) | Pro, $35 for 2,250 credits | $0.93 | 37 |
| MiniMax MCP, Hailuo-02, 768P, 6 sec | $0.28 per video | Prepaid API balance | $0.28 | depends on balance |
Sources: Higgsfield pricing guide for U.S. plans, the per-model grid on the Higgsfield pricing page (viewed from France) for Kling 3.0, the Higgsfield post of Oct. 27, 2026 for Seedance 2.5 (which gives the same $3.43 and $7.84), Kling plans ($6.99 the first month, then $8.80) and the Kling 4.0 rate shown on the Generate button in our Kling guide, Runway pricing (Pro: $28 a month billed annually; 2,250 credits = 187 seconds of Gen-4.5), MiniMax API pricing (Hailuo-02 listed as a legacy model: $0.56 for 10 seconds at 768P, $0.49 for 6 seconds at 1080P).
The two Kling rows don’t cover the same model: Kling 3.0 on Higgsfield, Kling 4.0 with sound on Kling. Kling doesn’t publish which models its MCP offers, and the Kling 4.0 rate (10 credits per second at 720p) is only shown by the generator’s Generate button (recorded Oct. 16, 2026).
Key takeaways:
- The model matters more than the connector: on the same Higgsfield Plus plan, one 10-second Seedance 2.5 clip at 1080p costs as much as nearly 23 five-second Kling 3.0 clips at 720p (math: 160 ÷ 7).
- Nothing is free through Higgsfield’s MCP: your plan’s “unlimited” models and free generations only work on higgsfield.ai (Higgsfield help). The pricing page repeats it under the plan grid.
- First-month discounts skew comparisons: Kling shows $6.99 for the first month, then $8.80; the math uses the regular price.
- The assistant is a separate cost: Claude Free is enough for one connector; on ChatGPT, plugin access depends on your plan.

What Precautions Should You Take?
- Higgsfield has no built-in spending cap. Its help center says so: telling the agent “don’t spend more than X credits, ask me before each generation” is a prompt-level instruction, not a hard limit (Higgsfield help, checked Oct. 29, 2026). Its terms of use (Section 11.12, updated Oct. 23, 2026) make you responsible for everything an agent does with your account, costs included (Higgsfield terms). The Oct. 27, 2026 post adds that upscaling doesn’t show its cost in advance.
- Keep control of permissions. Anthropic advises clicking “Allow always” only for tools you trust, and notes that during Research, Claude can call a connector’s tools without further approval (Anthropic help). Turn the video connector off when you’re not using it.
- Rights and commercial use. At Higgsfield, commercial use is included from Starter up and excluded on Free, per the Oct. 24, 2026 pricing guide (the help center contradicts it; see our Higgsfield page). Kling’s paid plans state “Generated content is for commercial use” (Kling plans), and its free tier excludes it (Kling credit guide). For Runway and MiniMax, read their terms before client work.
- Consent for faces and voices. Higgsfield’s terms (Section 4.2) require you to have the rights and consents of anyone whose name, likeness or voice appears in your uploads. This isn’t legal advice.
- Only the official server address. Higgsfield says the only official connector URL is
mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcpand that a connector at any other address “is not Higgsfield” (official platforms). Same care elsewhere:kling.ai/mcpfor Kling,mcp.runwayml.com/mcpfor Runway, theMiniMax-AIrepo on GitHub for MiniMax. Other, unofficial servers use these names.
Common Mistakes
- Expecting a video from ChatGPT or Claude alone. Without a connector, they write the script and the prompt, not the video.
- Assuming “unlimited” applies in the chat. Through MCP, Higgsfield charges standard credits, even for a model that’s unlimited on the site.
- Attaching the image to your message. The assistant doesn’t pass attachments to Higgsfield: ask it to open the upload window, wait for confirmation, then describe the image’s role.
- “Authorization with the MCP server failed.” The token expired: disconnect Higgsfield in Claude’s connectors (or ChatGPT’s plugins), then reconnect.
- The assistant answers without calling the tool. Start a new chat, name Higgsfield in your request and check that the connector is on for that conversation.
- The video doesn’t show up. Wait up to 60 seconds, then check Manage Account → Usage; if credits were charged with no result, contact support with the generation ID and time.
- Looking for “Add custom MCP server” on ChatGPT Plus. That option is for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces; use a plugin from the directory instead.
spawn uvx ENOENTerror with MiniMax.uvxisn’t installed or isn’t on your PATH: MiniMax’s guide says to give its full path.
Alternatives Without MCP
- Generate on the service’s own site. It’s the only way to use Higgsfield’s unlimited and free generations (Higgsfield page), and the only way to use a subscription to the Hailuo app, which had no MCP connector as of Oct. 29, 2026 (its subscription doesn’t cover MiniMax’s MCP). Kling also works directly on kling.ai with the same credits.
- Let ChatGPT or Claude write, and a generator shoot. Ask the assistant for a shot list and one prompt per shot, then paste them into the generator you prefer: no connector, no permissions to manage.
- Compare generators. Our top 10 AI video tools compares the main ones, with their free tiers.
FAQ
Can ChatGPT make videos?
Not on its own: OpenAI shut down Sora (app on April 26, 2026, API on Sept. 24, 2026), and ChatGPT now only makes images. You need to install a video generator’s plugin, such as Higgsfield’s or Runway’s, and pay for the generation with that service.
Can ChatGPT make videos for free?
Not as of October 2026 with the connectors covered here: Higgsfield requires a paid subscription, Runway lists MCP on its Pro and Max plans, MiniMax charges per video, and Kling’s MCP is only available in ChatGPT on the web for Business, Enterprise and Edu (manual server setup). For free, ChatGPT can write the script and prompts for you to paste into a generator’s free tier.
Can Claude make videos for free, for YouTube or from images?
Not on its own: Anthropic doesn’t document any video generation. With a custom connector (one on the free plan), Claude drives a generator such as Higgsfield, Kling or Runway and returns the clip in the chat; only the video service is paid. Through Higgsfield’s MCP, it can animate an image you send through the upload window, reframe a video to 9:16 or 16:9 for social or YouTube Shorts, and upscale it. Check commercial-use rights before publishing on a monetized channel.
What is an MCP server or MCP connector?
MCP is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools. The MCP server is the service that offers those tools (generate a video, check a balance); the connector, or plugin in ChatGPT, is the entry in the assistant that plugs into it with your authorization.
Does Kling’s MCP work with ChatGPT?
Kling documents two routes for ChatGPT: adding the https://kling.ai/mcp server manually, which OpenAI limits to Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces on the web, or a plugin installed locally from GitHub. In Claude, you add it as a custom connector, with no API key.
Does MiniMax’s MCP use a Hailuo subscription?
No. MiniMax’s MCP server calls the MiniMax API with a developer key and charges each video to your API balance ($0.28 for 6 seconds of Hailuo-02 at 768P, checked Oct. 29, 2026). MiniMax also sells its own subscription, M Plan (H3 included on Explore and Build), usable in tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, but not through this MCP server (M Plan overview); in Claude.ai or ChatGPT, Higgsfield offers MiniMax H3 among its models.
