What Changed Since 2025

• The $9 plan is gone. Koala now calls Essentials a legacy plan kept for existing subscribers (post on the new plans, August 2026). New customers start at $25/month.
• New models. GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, mentioned in the April 2025 version of this page, have been replaced by GPT-6, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Opus 5.5, updated on Sept. 23, 2026 (changelog).

What Does KoalaWriter Do?

KoalaWriter takes a keyword and returns a structured article with headings, links, images and sources. According to the KoalaWriter page and the features page (checked Sept. 25, 2026):

• Eight article types: blog post, listicle, Amazon affiliate (roundup or single-product review, using live Amazon data), service page, rewrite of existing content, local places roundup, how-to guide and topical cluster (a pillar page plus supporting articles).
• Editable outline: add, delete or reorder H2s and H3s before generating.
• Style controls: tone, writing style, brand voice, optional call to action.
• 100+ languages, including US, UK, Canadian and Australian English, with country targeting for local search (multilingual support).
• Bulk mode: queue 10 to 100+ articles at once, starting on the Starter plan.

SERP Data and Real-Time Research

Before writing, KoalaWriter analyzes the pages ranking for your keyword and covers the entities and terms they share (automatic SEO optimization, checked Sept. 25, 2026). It adds live research from the web, Google Scholar, Google News or a custom search.

Deep Research, which gathers sources for your topic and outline before writing and can cite them, requires Professional or above. Extended Research, which runs dozens of searches and also reads PDFs, is in beta on the same plans (changelog, Sept. 16, 2026).

Links, Images and Publishing

• Internal linking: KoalaWriter indexes your site and places relevant internal links in every article. KoalaLinks extends this across the whole site (up to 50 sites on Professional).

Two Default Settings to Check

• First-Hand Experience: KoalaWriter writes as if it had actually used the product, visited the place or done the work, with lines like “after three months, I noticed…”. It is on by default (First-Hand Experience page, checked Sept. 25, 2026). Without a real experience behind them, those sentences mislead readers. Turn it off unless the experiences come from your own Brand DNA data and you verify each one.
• Avoid AI Patterns: strips typical AI-writing tells (on by default since Aug. 28, 2026). Smoother prose is still generated prose: Google looks at the value a page adds, not at whether it sounds like AI.

How Much Does Koala AI Cost?

Agency and high-volume plans run from Growth ($179/month, 500,000 words, 3 brands) to Scale III ($2,000/month, 10 million words, 75 brands).

Platform credits are shared across KoalaChat, KoalaImages, KoalaLinks, KoalaMagnets, the Brand DNA agent, the API and the MCP; articles draw on the separate word allowance. On monthly plans, words and credits expire after a month; annual plans get everything up front, valid for a year.

Refunds and Cancellation

Koala offers refunds within 15 days of buying a new plan if usage is minimal: under 15,000 words and 100 credits (FAQ on the pricing page, checked Sept. 25, 2026). You can cancel anytime from the Account page. Koala accepts cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay and US bank transfers through Stripe.

Is Koala AI Free?

Not as a permanent free plan. Every new account gets 5,000 words and 25 credits, no credit card required (Koala pricing and Koala help center, checked Sept. 25, 2026). That covers roughly two 2,000-word articles.

Free accounts only get the baseline models: GPT-6 Luna in KoalaWriter; Gemini 3.8 Flash, GPT-6 Luna and Claude 4.5 Haiku in KoalaChat. They cannot connect to the MCP. To judge output from Claude Sonnet 5, the model Koala recommends, you have to pay.

Mass-Produced SEO Content: What Google Says

Koala also sells volume: its KoalaWriter page talks about “high-volume programmatic SEO” and batches of 10 to 100+ articles, and Autopilot can publish with no one in the loop. That is exactly where the risk lies.

• The policy. Since March 2024, Google’s spam policies cover scaled content abuse: generating many pages primarily to manipulate rankings rather than help users, no matter how they are created (AI, humans or both). The first example listed is using generative AI tools to produce many pages without adding value for users (page updated Aug. 31, 2026).
• The March 2024 update. On March 5, 2024, Google announced a core update and these new policies, aiming to cut low-quality, unoriginal content in search results by 40%; in late April 2024 it reported a 45% reduction (Google blog).
• AI itself is allowed. Google says generative AI can help research a topic and add structure to original content, asks for accuracy (including titles, meta descriptions and alt text) and suggests telling readers how content was produced (Google’s guidance on generative AI content, updated Dec. 10, 2025).
• Publishing in the EU? Since Aug. 2, 2026, the EU AI Act requires AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest (politics, health, justice, the environment…) to be labeled, unless a qualified person genuinely reviewed it and someone holds editorial responsibility (European Commission FAQ on Article 50). A spell-check does not count as review.

In short, Google does not penalize a tool. It targets a practice: pages published for volume that offer readers nothing they could not find elsewhere.

How to Use Koala Responsibly

1. Pick topics where you have something to add: experience, data, photos, a clear opinion. Koala structures and researches; it cannot supply your expertise.
2. Fill Brand DNA with real facts (services, credentials, methods) so articles draw on your business rather than generic claims.
3. Turn off First-Hand Experience unless the experience described is actually yours.

5. Check every figure and source by opening the outbound links. Live research reduces errors; it does not eliminate them.
6. Add your own input: examples, screenshots, tables, a firm verdict, whatever the ranking pages are missing.
7. Publish only as fast as you can review, then watch those pages in Search Console. A batch of 100 unreviewed articles is exactly what Google’s policy targets.
