Mistral Le Chat Is Now Mistral Vibe: Pricing, Free Plan and Limits

Le Chat, the AI assistant from French company Mistral AI, has been called Mistral Vibe since May 28, 2026: same address (chat.mistral.ai), same account, but now an agent that chains research, documents and code. It still has a free plan with limits; Pro costs $14.99 a month before tax in the U.S. (pricing page, checked Sept. 25, 2026). It’s aimed at people who want a European alternative to ChatGPT, with data hosted in the EU by default.

Does Mistral Le Chat Still Exist?

Yes, under a new name. On May 28, 2026, Mistral announced that Le Chat was becoming Vibe, “one agent and one licence” across work and code (Mistral announcement). If you already used Le Chat, there’s nothing to redo (Mistral Help Center):

• Same address: chat.mistral.ai now opens Vibe, with your existing conversations.
• Same account: your plan, settings and saved content carry over automatically.
• Same apps: the mobile app is now listed as “Vibe by Mistral (ex-Le Chat)” on the App Store and Google Play.

The name comes from Mistral’s command-line coding agent, Vibe CLI (May 22, 2026 announcement). The merged product has two modes: Work for everyday and professional tasks, and Code for software development. The old Chat mode is being phased out, individual accounts first, while enterprise organizations get a six-month migration window (Mistral docs).

What Can Mistral Vibe Do?

In Work mode, you describe the outcome you want; Vibe picks the tools, shows its progress step by step and asks for approval before sensitive actions (Vibe overview). Documented features (Work getting started guide):

• Web search, reading a specific page from its URL, and deep research with a cited report.
• Verified news: Mistral signed a deal with Agence France-Presse (AFP) in January 2025 to use its newswire in answers (Mistral–AFP announcement); the feature is still listed on the pricing page, free plan included.
• Files and Canvas: upload PDFs, Word and PowerPoint files, spreadsheets, images, code or emails, then draft and edit deliverables in the Canvas editor (Files and Canvas).
• Image generation using Black Forest Labs models, plus editing of uploaded images; daily limits depend on your plan (Image generation).
• Code Interpreter: Vibe writes and runs Python or TypeScript in an isolated sandbox with no internet access, for data analysis or charts. Paid plans only (Code Interpreter).
• Connectors: Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, Slack, Notion, GitHub, SharePoint, Box, Linear, Stripe and Atlassian, plus custom MCP connectors (Connectors). Mistral states that data accessed through connectors is never used to train its models.
• Scheduled tasks: run a prompt once, or daily, weekly, monthly or yearly (public preview, Work mode only) (Scheduled tasks).
• Projects and libraries: group tasks by topic and index collections of documents.
• Memory: the Knowledge Base stores your preferences and context, either when you ask (“remember that…”) or on its own, and can be turned off in your privacy settings (Knowledge Base).
• Voice mode on web and mobile, with transcription by Mistral’s Voxtral models (Voice mode).

Which Models Does Mistral Vibe Use?

Since May 22, 2026, the default model is Mistral Medium 3.5: a dense 128-billion-parameter model with a 256K-token context window, released as open weights under a modified MIT license (Mistral Medium 3.5 announcement). Voice input runs on Voxtral, Mistral’s audio models (product page). Mistral’s model list also includes Mistral Small 4, Mistral Large 3 (December 2025) and its document OCR models, available through the API.

When Mistral relaunched Le Chat in February 2025, it promoted “Flash Answers” at up to roughly 1,000 words per second (February 2025 announcement). The FAQ on the pricing page still mentions Flash answers, capped at 150 per day on Pro and 200 on Team (checked Sept. 25, 2026).

Is Mistral Vibe Free?

Yes. According to the pricing page (checked Sept. 25, 2026), the free plan includes:

• access to Mistral’s models on web and mobile;
• a limited number of messages and web searches;
• image generation;
• 100+ connectors, voice mode, project folders and verified news;
• “limited coding sessions.”

Mistral doesn’t publish how many messages Free includes: paid limits are expressed as multiples of the free plan (“up to 6x more messages” on Pro). Message counts quoted elsewhere don’t come from Mistral.

What Free doesn’t include: the CLI and IDE extension, remote coding agents, and chat and email support, per the same page, plus Code Interpreter, per the docs. The comparison table also marks Canvas as unavailable on Free, while the documentation says it’s on every plan.

How Much Does Mistral Vibe Cost?

All limits are subject to “fair usage.” In Europe, the same page shows tax-inclusive euro prices (Pro is €17.99 a month in France, checked Sept. 25, 2026).

Mistral Vibe for Coding

Code mode builds on the former Vibe CLI agent: it works in your terminal, in VS Code (official extension) or as remote sessions on the web, taking a request all the way to a pull request ready for review. Remote sessions run in isolated sandboxes, and the /teleport command moves a live session between your terminal and the cloud (Mistral announcement). The product page also mentions JetBrains and Zed.

Is My Data Safe With Mistral Vibe?

• Hosting: data is hosted in the European Union by default. Depending on the feature, it may be temporarily transferred outside the EU to the subprocessors listed in Mistral’s Trust Center (where Mistral stores data).
• Training: on Free, Pro and Student plans, your conversations are used to train Mistral’s models by default. You can opt out anytime in Vibe’s settings, under Privacy (the “Allow your interactions to be used to train our models” toggle on the web), or in the data settings of the mobile app. On Team, an admin decides for the whole organization; Enterprise is opted out by default (training opt-out).
• Connectors: data read through connectors is not used for training, on any plan.

What Are Mistral Vibe’s Drawbacks?

• A product in transition: Chat mode is going away, and several features (Agents, Deep Research, Memories) are documented as “legacy.” Guides from before May 2026 often describe an interface that no longer exists.
• Vague limits: “6x more messages” doesn’t tell you how many messages Free actually includes.
• Advanced tools cost money: Code Interpreter, the CLI and the IDE extension all require at least Pro.
• Pricing page and docs sometimes disagree (Canvas, coding on Free).
• Privacy settings are on you: on individual plans, training on your conversations is on by default.
